About Me

Who is Mariama
Hawkins?

I am a sophomore fashion design student with a passion for creative design and a commitment to sustainability. Specializing in utilizing eco-friendly sourcing methods, I strive to create innovative, stylish pieces that not only look good but also have a positive impact on the environment. Throughout my journey, I’ve honed my skills in both traditional and modern design techniques, while exploring sustainable fashion practices. My goal is to merge creativity with responsibility, designing collections that reflect both my artistic vision and my dedication to a more sustainable future in fashion.

Costume Designing

Recently, I had the privilege of serving as the head costume designer for the Mississippi State Theater production of Charlotte’s Web. In this role, I was able to showcase my creativity by combining old costume pieces with new materials, utilizing dyes and innovative fabric cutting techniques. This experience allowed me to apply my sustainable design practices in a practical setting, reimagining existing elements while bringing fresh, environmentally conscious ideas to the production. The project not only honed my technical skills but also deepened my passion for combining sustainability with artistic expression in costume design.
